East Warren Avenue Farmers MarketIn the spring of 2008, Growing & Retailing Opportunities in Wayne County (G.R.O.W.) contracted EcoZoic L3C to assist in establishing a neighborhood farmers market on the far east side of Detroit. The East Warren Avenue Farmers Market opened in East English Village, early July of that year. This outdoor farmers market was organized to meet the G.R.O.W. collaborative's objective to provide a viable retail space for independent urban gardeners on the east side to offer their fresh produce to the under-served neighborhoods in the area. The market was also able attract a number of farmers from nearby rural areas, diversifying and increasing the volume of the foods available. An additional benefit to the neighborhood has been an overall increase in activity along the business district on market days. Nearby businesses have reported substantial increases in dollars spent at their establishment during the market's hours of operation. The East Warren Avenue Farmers Market is located in Detroit on the northeast corner of Bishop and East Warren Ave, and features produce grown exclusively in Michigan. The market is open on Saturdays, 10am-3pm, from June through September. Visit the market and support sustainable local food economies.
